Pregnant and Worried About Money?

An unexpected pregnancy can feel overwhelming when money is already tight.

You may be thinking about rent, food, work, school, transportation, childcare, family pressure, or how you would afford baby supplies. When the practical needs feel too heavy, abortion may start to feel like the only option.

Before you make a decision because of financial pressure, you deserve time, clear information, and real support.

The Valley Care Pregnancy Centre offers free and confidential support for women and families in Kentville, the Annapolis Valley and across Nova Scotia.

You Are Not Wrong to Be Concerned About Money

Financial pressure is a valid concern.

Pregnancy can raise serious questions, including:

  • How will rent or housing be handled?

  • What if there is not enough food?

  • What about work or school?

  • How will transportation be managed?

  • What baby items will be needed?

  • What if family or a partner will not help?

  • What if another child feels impossible right now?

But financial pressure should not be the only voice in the decision. You deserve support from someone who will listen carefully, respect you, and help you think through what help may be available.

What The Valley Care Pregnancy Centre Provides — and What We Do Not Provide

The Valley Care Pregnancy Centre provides free and confidential pregnancy support, self-administered pregnancy tests, pregnancy options information, parenting education, adoption information and referrals, practical support, and community referrals.

The The Valley Care Pregnancy Centre does not provide or refer for abortions. We do not provide contraception services or referrals. We do not provide licensed counselling, medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or ultrasounds.

Our role is to offer a safe, respectful place to talk, ask questions, and consider your next step without pressure.

Before Making a Pregnancy Decision Because of Money

When money is the main pressure, it can be hard to think clearly. Fear can make every option feel closed.

Before making a decision, it may help to ask:

  • Is abortion being considered because it is truly wanted, or because it feels financially necessary?

  • What practical help would make continuing the pregnancy feel more possible?

  • Is someone else using money, housing, work, or family pressure to push one outcome?

  • What support is available locally?

  • What information is still missing?

  • What would change if there were help with baby supplies, parenting support, or referrals?

You do not have to sort through these questions alone.

The team at the Valley Care Pregnancy Centre can provide a private place to talk through your situation without pressure or judgment.

If Someone Else Is Using Money to Pressure You

Sometimes financial pressure comes from someone else.

A partner, parent, family member, friend, employer, or landlord may be adding pressure by saying things like:

“You cannot afford this.”
“You have no choice.”
“You cannot live here if you continue this pregnancy.”
“I will not help you.”
“You need to make an appointment.”
“This is the only responsible thing to do.”

No one should use money, housing, threats, shame, or control to force you into a pregnancy decision.

If someone else is pressuring you, our team at the Valley Care Pregnancy Centre can provide a confidential place to talk about what is happening and what support may be available.

Questions Worth Asking Before Deciding

When money is the main pressure, these questions may help bring some clarity:

What is the biggest financial fear right now?
Is the pressure immediate, long-term, or both?
Who is supportive, and who is adding pressure?
Is someone else using money, housing, work, or family pressure to push one decision?
What practical help would make the next few weeks feel more manageable?
What local support may be available?
What information is still missing?
What decision would feel right if money were not the only pressure?

You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out.

You Deserve Support Before You Decide
