We are ...
"Pro-Women,"
"Pro-Information" and "Pro-Love"
“Pro-Women” means
that we affirm all women. We appreciate the abuse and
hardships that many face during their lifetime, especially hardship
which comes through males. We therefore are not sympathetic towards
abortion because we believe it is another way in which the male
dominated medical system (by far, most abortionists are men) abuses
women by not providing other meaningful options or good counselling
on those options. The options from the medical system are
often: either have an abortion (which we will do for you) or have
the child (at which point we will do nothing practical for you). Our
experience at the Pregnancy Centre is that many, many women have
serious long-term difficulties after their abortion and we therefore
believe that it is not a good referral.
“Pro-Information” means that we believe that all people
deserve, and are entitled to, absolutely all the information about
the options and procedures of abortion they may encounter. This
includes the harder truth about parenting and adoption. It also
means telling the harder truth about abortion. We seek, in as gentle
a way as possible, to let the facts and details speak for
themselves; after all, none of us have the right to force a decision
on a person and we believe that coercion or manipulation is
inappropriate and condescending.
“Pro-Love” means that we include and emphasis upon the
emotional health of the individuals involved. We are absolutely
non-judgmental and non-condemnatory. We only want what is best for
the clients ... and they, unless they have been severely damaged by
life experiences, are the ones who know best.
Even if a client decides
to proceed with an abortion, we always affirm them by letting them
know that we are here for them even after the abortion. If
they ever want to talk or have any concerns, we are here for them.
In all of these we acknowledge that we do not have, nor should we
seek to have, power over other individuals. Abortion is legal and it
is a woman's legal right to choose it. It is also our moral
obligation not to refer women for procedures which we honestly
believe are harmful directly to her. In the same way that it is
currently viewed as an inappropriate referral if a doctor advices or
refers a male newborn patient for circumcision, we too believe that
some referrals are harmful or simplistic or inappropriate.
